Antonio Rosmini: per una filosofia umile e coraggiosa

Beginning with some suggestions on teaching, Rosmini reminds the intellectuals of his time about the two fundamental characteristics of philosophy: humility and courage. Humility consists of recognizing those who have gone before, the forefathers, all those who have tried to think the one truth, like ‘summits’ that constitute the uninterrupted chain of perennial philosophizing. Yet humility does not mean giving up. The philosopher must be ‘courageous’, ready to depart from beaten paths to open new research routes which will become voices of truth. This is the way Rosmini himself philosophizes: with the forefathers and beyond them. This is an important lesson which contemporary philosophy must return to meditate upon.
