Teoria Testo Traduzione JA - Ticontre VL - IS - 7 SE - Teoria e pratica della traduzione DO - UR - https://teseo.unitn.it/ticontre/article/view/1042 SP - 251-268 AB -

The symbolic significance of light as the hand of destiny and the harbinger of Meursault’s doom in Camus’s l'Étranger has been at the hearth of the critical debate over the last few decades, shedding light on many aspects of the text crucial for a contemporary rereading of it within the framework of Translation Studies. The aim of this paper is to explore how the role of light informs such formal features of the novel as personifications, relevant lexical items, rhetorical devices, and parallelisms, all of which will be analysed in the context of the comparison between the source text and two Italian translations: the first translation by Alberto Zevi (dating back to 1947) and the latest retranslation by Sergio Claudio Perroni (2015). The study will focus on the differences between these two translations as well as on the most successful strategies adopted to convey multifaceted significance of light on a stylistic level, which gives rise to further interpretations that may be feeding future retranslations.

PAROLE CHIAVE

L’Étranger; retranslation; sensoriality; sunlight; violence; musicality; semantic networks.
ER -
