Unimpeded by the more common theories of stylistics, ethics, or generic conventions in translation studies, Anne Carson creates radically liberal translations, brimming with interventions and with her own poetic sensibilities. Enthralled with linguistic lacks and with the authors that she strives to assimilate through her writing, Carson reveals that translation is a unique « state » of creation that exists outside of the reading-writing duality. In her works, voices, references and styles combine and exalt the erotics of literary creation. Drawing from her commentaries and through the hermeneutical study of her translational works, this article analyses the symbiotic relationship which Carson shares with her source-text, and the creative impulsion that translation seems to spark.
