Abstract

This contribution aims to offer the first complete Italian translation of Epístola Moral a Fabio (1612), by the Spanish Andrés Fernández de Andrada, one of the best texts of a genre such as the poetic letter, still neglected by historical literary manuals, but which it had a decisive relevance in the European literary panorama and a significant spread especially in the Italian Renaissance and throughout the Spanish Siglo de Oro. In order to respect the metric and rhythmic structure and the style of the original, this translation, accompanied by a large set of explanatory notes, is the first of those that will form an anthology of epistles in verse of the Spanish Golden Age – of Stoic, Senecan and Horatian inspiration –, a genre that among its authors includes names such as Garcilaso, Boscán, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, Cetina, Montemayor, Aldana, Lope de Vega, Góngora and Quevedo, among many others.
