Social Economy, Culture and Community Development: Festivals and Cultural Volunteering
Edited by Silvia Sacchetti, Matteo Gaudiello, Marco Di Stasio
The focus of the event is the role of festivals and cultural volunteering as potential tools for the development of local areas and communities. The analysis explores the value of festivals as community enterprises, questioning their ability to reduce center–periphery disparities by promoting access to culture, connectivity, the creation of relational goods, and the involvement of people in identifying needs and desirable development goals. These factors make festivals and cultural volunteering catalysts of “vitality” for people and territories, as well as of social innovation, capable of fostering forms of cultural participation and social sustainability that also involve civil society. The publication is divided into two parts, bringing together contributions from academics, cultural practitioners, and public administrators who took part in the round table on October 25, 2024.
