In this 1933 essay, Gaspare Ambrosini argues that the system of regional autonomy gives rise to the establishment of a type of state different from the unitary and the federal. To substantiate this premise – having distinguished the concept of decentralization from that of autonomy, and drawing upon the constitutions of the former Austrian monarchy and the Spanish Republic – the Author highlights how autonomous regions differ from both the provinces of a unitary state and the member states of a federal state.
