«Sempre credenti»
Una lettura filosofica e teologica

This contribution presents a detailed phenomenology of belief; it describes a modus essendi deeply rooted in the experience of belief and demonstrates that this experience has always been communal. Paradoxically, then, everyone is thus first and foremost a believer in man and the world which he is a part of, before, possibly, going on to develop a specific and structured form of religious belief. From this perspective, Pascal’s wager is pushed to the extreme: we, as men, cannot choose to choose; we make a bet right from the start and are then involved in the difficult game of human existence. The pre-philosophical element, i.e. the unquestioned element which has to be lived, since it cannot be proved, gives rise to philosophy itself and also, consequently, to anthropology and theology.
