The article is a brief introduction aimed to give impulse to a broader research project on Rosmini and Second Scholasticism. Rosmini considers the 13th century as the Golden Age of Scholasticism, but he also observes a decline of Scholasticism which began roughly with the 14th century and ended with the Enlightenment. However, he stresses some positive aspects of the 17th century Scholasticism in several areas of philosophy and theology. Furthermore, he also pays attention to the 18th century Scholasticism, a hybrid form of scholastic thought deeply influenced by early modern philosophers. Finally, the article suggests a working hypothesis to investigate the early modern scholastic sources of Rosmini’s thought.
