About the Journal
«Rosmini Studies» is the first open-access online journal in a long tradition of periodicals inspired by Antonio Rosmini, stretching from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present day. It is an annual publication, with a marked international character, promoted by the ‘Antonio Rosmini’ Study and Research Centre of the University of Trento. Its internationality is reflected not only in its English title and in its decision to publish the editorial in five languages (Italian, English, French, German, Spanish), but especially in the composition of its Scientific Committee, the background of its contributors—who usually write their contributions in their native language—and its means of dissemination, namely the web, on a platform that allows free and open access to the journal from anywhere in the world. This aligns with the belief that the rich scholarly production concerning Antonio Rosmini, which has grown exponentially since the 1960s, now requires greater internationalization.
«Rosmini Studies» also aims to distinguish itself through an interdisciplinary approach to the figure of the great philosopher from Rovereto. We believe this is required not only by the encyclopedic scope of his thought, but also by his multifaceted personality. He played a prominent role in the history of philosophy and, more generally, in the history of culture—witness his intense relationship with Alessandro Manzoni and Niccolò Tommaseo, or his controversies with Melchiorre Gioia and Gian Domenico Romagnosi. Rosmini also played a significant role in the history of the Catholic Church, as the founder of the Institute of Charity and a protagonist in the centuries-old ‘Rosminian question’, as well as in the Italian Risorgimento, with the publication of his famous political-religious treatises (“operette”) and his well-known mission to Rome. After a long and fruitful period of specialized in-depth studies, we believe that these different analytical perspectives can, and indeed must, communicate and interact more intensely with each other, if we wish to truly understand the unity and coherence of a personality like Rosmini’s.
While Rosmini—with his work, his sources, and his legacy—remains the primary subject of interest, the journal also welcomes contributions dedicated to other important figures in the history of philosophy and culture, with particular reference to the Italian tradition.
To guarantee scientific rigor, all texts published in «Rosmini Studies» undergo double-blind peer review, with the exception of contributions already publicly presented elsewhere, as well as editorials and introductions to individual sections, which are written by the editorial board.
«Rosmini Studies» is included in the Anvur classification of scientific journals for the entire Area 11 (Historical, Philosophical, Pedagogical, and Psychological Sciences) and as a Class A journal for Sector 11C3 (Moral Philosophy).
