Abstract

Vittorio Mathieu's ontology has been elaborated in his latest work, titled Treatise on Ontology. This work serves as a definitive systematization of Mathieu's thought and aligns with his previous writings. The article summarizes the main contents of Mathieu's theoretical proposal and subsequently analyzes them from the perspective of neoclassical philosophy. It combines the viewpoints of Gustavo Bontadini and Emanuele Severino to demonstrate how a phenomenological metaphysics fails to qualify as stable knowledge. The suggestion is then made to preserve the results of Mathieu's work, albeit relinquishing his opposition towards classical metaphysics and, in particular, the ontological range of the principle of non-contradiction.
