Rosmini as Lexicographer

From the Revision of the «Vocabolario della Crusca» to Tommaseo-Bellini’s «Dizionario della lingua italiana»

Abstract

In studies on Antonio Rosmini’s multifaceted intellectual activity, language represents an often overlooked topic. This article presents the unpublished lexicographical work carried out by Rosmini for a revision of the Vocabolario della Crusca, and then focuses on his direct involvement in the compilation of philosophical entries for Tommaseo and Bellini’s Dizionario della lingua italiana, in order to highlight Rosmini’s participation in the nineteenth century «questione della lingua».
