Declaration of Ethics

The editorial board members, the authors and the editorial staff of Rosmini Studies fulfill their duties in full observance of the ethical principles established and approved by the international academic community.

In order to explain and clarify any doubts about the editorial and communicative practices adopted, and taking into account the recommendations of the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), the editorial board members of Rosmini Studies prepared the following guidelines.

 

GENERAL DUTIES

The director of the review is competent and responsible for the selection of the published materials. He shall undertake that the publication meet the needs of authors and readers, both from the point of view of scientific validity and from the point of view of communicative clarity. The director will also be guarantor for the freedom of expression, the fairness of the peer-review processes and for the ruling legislation on the circulation of data.

 

RELATIONS WITH READERS

All published works must be original and state in a clear and complete way which bibliographic sources have been used for the researches. Direction and editorial staff will ensure that the selected works are subjected to double blind peer review.

 

RELATIONS WITH AUTHORS

The selection of texts for publication will follow exclusively criteria of originality, scientific quality, clarity, argumentative accuracy and relevance of the content. The editorial board members will communicate to the authors the editorial norms to be followed, which have the exclusive aim to encourage the compliance with the abovementioned criteria (and, in some cases, to increase the international visibility of the publications). If a manuscript is not accepted, the editorial board members shall be ready to explain their choice to the author. In no event shall a member of the editorial board evaluate a manuscript with regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origins, citizenship, political (but also scientific or academic) orientation of the author.

EDITORIAL BOARD MEMBERS’ DUTIES

The duties of the editorial board members include the supervision on the occurrence of conflicts of interest; the defense of the confidentiality of the materials proposed by the authors; the protection of the identity of peer reviewers and authors in the case of (simple or double) blind peer review; the prevention of cases (involving authors or peer reviewers) of plagiarism or misappropriation of materials.

 

PEER REVIEWERS’ DUTIES

The peer reviewers have the task of assisting the editorial board members in choosing the materials to be published; they also support authors by improving the content of their manuscripts. If, after being selected and contacted by the editorial staff, the referee charged with the evaluation of the proposed manuscript does not feel qualified from a scientific point of view, he must inform the editorial board, which will exclude him from the evaluation process; the same has to be done if the reviewer perceives a conflict of interest with the author (and, even more, if he comes to understand his/her identity). All received manuscripts must be considered as confidential material; they should not be shown to third parties or discussed with people not expressly authorized by the editorial board. Information or ideas obtained through the evaluation process must be kept confidential and not used for the reviewer’s own benefit. Revisions must be carried out with the utmost objectivity. Any doubt on the originality of the submitted work should be immediately notified to the editor. Any criticism or consideration related to the author's person should be absolutely avoided. The outcomes of the evaluation must be clearly expressed and supported by valid arguments.

 

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND OPENNESS TO DEBATE

Director and editorial board members shall ensure that cases of plagiarism or intellectual property infringements are avoided. Besides, they commit themselves to guaranteeing the right of reply to authors with regards to criticized materials and also to ensure their full availability to publish additional materials meant to correct past articles or works or to limit their scope.
