Call for papers 7-2026

2026-07-10

The call for papers is now open for the seventh issue of DiGiTi. Rivista Manoscritta from the Department of Literature and Philosophy at the University of Trento.

The handwritten journal is a project that aims to highlight the extraordinary potential of communication achieved through handwriting.

The journal, published twice a year, will be distributed in both print and digital formats on the TESeO platform – Trento Editions Service for Open Science. Each issue will have a theme on which contributors may write according to their own perspectives and interests.

The call for submissions for issue no. 7 of the journal invites contributions on the theme: ‘Epigraphs and graffiti’.

For this issue of DiGiTi, the editorial board proposes a structure that differs from previous issues, born of our ongoing desire for innovation and experimentation.

The proposal is to create short texts and/or drawings, logos and original images conceived to be displayed on the external or internal surfaces of buildings and street furniture.

The texts and images will be set in the imaginary city of Fabulara, whose streets and squares – devoid of writing – are crying out to be filled with stories. Authors are given complete freedom to imagine the city’s layout, its characteristics, its architecture and its history.
The journal will represent the city.

We invite contributors to create a work consisting of one (1) page dedicated to the graffiti or inscription and one (1) page containing a free-form commentary on the idea and objective, including a description of the techniques, colours and tools used. Authors are therefore given complete freedom regarding the placement of the text or image within the city, its type (celebratory, commemorative or funerary inscription, etc.; advertising banner; sign, etc.) and the technique chosen for its creation.

Guidelines for authors

- Authors are asked to pay the utmost attention to the readability of their comments. To this end, the Editorial Board will provide the materials to be used for the preparation of the manuscript; authors are requested to use only the materials provided.

- The works must be handwritten, using whichever style of writing or image the author prefers for the inscription or graffiti. Colours may be used; these will only be visible on the web page, whilst the printed copies will be in black and white. Commentary pages, on the other hand, must be written in cursive using a black pen; the author must ensure that the pen is fully loaded and in good condition. If authors prefer to number the pages to be submitted, this must be done in pencil.

- The layout of the page is at the author’s discretion, but it must remain within the rectangle defined by the grid.

- Graffiti and inscriptions may be in Italian or other languages (including imaginary languages) without translation; the commentary may be provided in Italian, English, German, Spanish and French without translation, and in other languages with translation.

- Authors are asked to submit the final version of their paper (commentary), as far as possible, without any crossings-out or marks of any kind, so as to ensure the page is neat and to make it as easy to read as possible.

- The editorial team and internal reviewers will assess the content and readability.
