Piero Martinetti’s philosophical christology

Abstract

In 1934 Piero Martinetti published Gesù Cristo e il cristianesimo, reference text of his philosophical christology. This is a study in wich Jesus is seen as a moral ideal that accesses the truth through direct intellectual intuition. According to Martinetti, man, following this moral ideal, finds within himself a spiritual unity, a transcendental structure of the religious that overcomes both the theological-mystical vision of the Gospel of John and the ecclesiastical degeneration of the teaching of Jesus found in St. Paul’s letters.
