Berlin Alexanderplatz di Alfred Döblin

Abstract
Through Alfred Döblin’s essayistic and journalistic production of the 1910s and 2020s, the article investigates the development of the modes of representation of Berlin modernity finally fully offered by the author with the "metropolitan novel" Berlin Alexanderplatz (1929). If considered in the context of the debate relating to technology and capitalism of the time, these modalities prove to be of particular importance also for understanding the reasons for the prompt translation of the work by Alberto Spaini, author of the only version in our language of the novel published in 1931, i.e. during a regime fascist that very probably, as the article argues, understood little of Döblin’s intentions.
