Abstract

The aim of this introductory essay is to present and contextualize an important, unpublished letter from Baron Friedrich von Hügel to the writer Antonio Fogazzaro. Both correspondents were key figures in the modernist crisis that tore apart the Catholic Church and the pontificate of Pius X between the late nineteenth century and the beginning of the Great War.
