Abstract

This article provides a textual analysis of Cesare Pavese’s preparatory materials for three novels, Il compagno, Il diavolo sulle colline, and Tra donne sole. Through an analysis of textual variants this article shows how Pavese constantly altered the narrative structures of his works, redefining the narrative order, the time and space, and the features of the main characters and narrators.
