Un Huxley italiano nel ventennio fascista

Resumen

Si propone qui la prima traduzione in italiano del saggio Words and Behavior (1936) di Aldous Huxley. La traduzione è introdotta da un breve saggio che prende in esame la fortuna in Italia della raccolta che include il saggio qui tradotto (The Olive Tree and Other Essays) e si concentra sulle ragioni che indussero la casa editrice Laterza ad omettere nell’edizione italiana del 1939 (unica edizione della raccolta a tutt’oggi) proprio il saggio Words and Behavior.

The proposed contribution is the first Italian translation of Words and Behaviour (1936) by Aldous Huxley. The translation will be introduced by a short essay tracing an outline of the socio-cultural context within which, in 1939, the Laterza publishing house decided to publish Ada Prospero Gobetti’s translation of The Olive Tree and Other Essays while concurrently expunging the translation of Words and Behaviour.
