The paper, through a comparative analysis of participation models in climate governance adopted in Ireland, France, and Italy, aims to identify the most effective ways to make public participation effective, rather than merely consultative. In a context characterized by a crisis in political representation and citizens’ distrust of institutions, civil society participation emerges as a key element as a mechanism for democratic rebalancing and a key instrument for the effectiveness of climate policies.
