Resumen

Abstract:

This article is a study of a concept that is omnipresent in the theory and in the practice of translation, as well as in translation training, the notion of error. As this concept has widely contributed to the shaping of a discourse on translation, it is necessary to move towards a deeper understanding of the various meanings of ‘error’ in these contexts, in order to understand also the use that has been made of it, and the possibility of transforming its negative perception. The title of the article, « errore creatore » is a response to the widespread Italian maxim « traduttore traditore », and it aims to show that errors can play – and have played – many roles in the history of languages and of translation. After an analysis of the definitions of the term error, which will allow us to grasp as fully as possible the density of this word, I will move on to a reading of the notion of error in the history of translation theory and practice, to open the way to a use of error as a pedagogical tool in translation training.
