“Por el gran mar”: conoscenza, coscienza e lingua

Abstract

The last collection of the Spanish poet Andrés Sánchez Robayna, Por el gran mar (2019), marks a sort of peak in his poetic trajectory and also sheds a new light on his previous collections. It is a short book, which faces the great challenge of not losing clarity in the face of a shocking and irreparable event such as the premature loss of a loved one, but also proposes the hopeful rebirth of love. Along the lines of a poem intended as an “instrument of knowledge” (Valente), the achievement of a new balance is here recounted with strong support for the metaphor of poetic creation itself, which becomes a sort of meditative thorough bass of the book as a whole: the new identity of the poet, plunged into the darkness of pain, must come to terms with the unknown in order to come back to the surface again; this is also true for the poetic word, which, in order to reach the paper, has to do that mysterious journey from the invisible to the visible, from intuition to knowledge, from the unspeakable eternity to the, though fleeting, presence in the world. In this study we analyze this figuration in which the three thematic strands of knowledge, consciousness and language, come together. After an overview of the complete work of the poet (who in 2020 celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of his first book) we identify some key passages of the collection and finally proceed to a global review of the lexicon, with its grammatical values (nouns, adjectives, verbs). The work closes with the proposal of seven poems translated into Italian with parallel text.
